Other Information about iSync

If you choose to merge the information on your computer and devices for your initial sync, duplicate records for contacts and calendar information may be created, even if the records look the same on the device and the computer.

Do not synchronize the same device with two different computers. Doing so will likely create duplicate records and corrupt your data.

Use of proxies servers with .Mac synchronization is not supported at this time.

If you have information on your iPod before you use iSync, the information may be duplicated on the iPod when you do a sync. It is recommended that you remove the information from your iPod before using iSync. To save this information, import it into Address Book or iCal on your computer before you remove it from your iPod.

Many fields are not yet displayed, or are not displayed correctly, in the Conflict Resolver dialog. This will be fixed in the final version of iSync.

[Update 1] We synchronized our Address Book and iCal entries between our Power Book G4 and our iPod. To avoid duplicate entries, we first trashed our existing iCal and Address Book files on our iPod. Then we added our iPod as a device in iSync using the Add Device command under iSync's Device menu and double-clicking its icon, checked which calendars we wanted on our iPod and clicked the "Sync Now" button. It worked perfectly.

[Update 2] Now we have synchronized with .Mac and have sync'd our desktop G4 Cube with our PowerBook. We first registered our PowerBook with .Mac after clicking on the .Mac icon on iSync's window. This created the base file on .Mac (Our iDisk? Yes, it's in the "Library" folder) and then we registered our G4 Cube on .Mac and sync'd with it. This also worked perfectly, very impressive for beta software. Now we have commmon calendars and Address Books among three of our main devices: PowerBook G4, iPod and G4 Cube.

[Update 3] Finally, we sync'd our Sony Ericsson T68i mobile phone by plugging our D-Link Bluetooth adapter into our PowerBook, selecting "Add Device" from iSync's "Device" menu and dragging and dropping the T68i's icon onto iSync's window. (We could have double-clicked the icon instead as we did with our iPod.) We were able to choose the calendars that we wanted on our phone and to limit the contacts sync'd to those with phone numbers. Then we clicked on "Sync Now" in iSync's window. It took a few minutes and there were a few conflicts to resolve between .Mac and our PowerBook but it worked well. No need for a PDA. Our phone now has our complete Address book and calendars.

[Update] Apple Extended .Mac Monday Deadline for iTools Subscriber Discount: The $50 .Mac discount for iTools subscribers which was to expire on Monday, September 30th, has been extended to October 14th. A $99 ($49 with the discount) .Mac subscription brings increased iDisk space, Webmail, HomePage, Virex 7.1 and Backup 1.2 among other things.
