[Updated] NVIDIA Announced It's New GeForce4 Line at a press event yesterday from 6-7p PT. The event, held at San Francisco's Palace of Fine Arts Theatre, included a hands-on demonstration of the new graphics cards. Macs Only!'s Brian Nakamoto attended. [Updated] Apple Announced GeForce4 Titanium Graphics Card BTO Option: Yesterday, Apple announced that the high-end NVIDIA GeForce4 Titanium graphics card will be a BTO option on all Power Mac G4s shipped beginning some time in March. [Update--Brian Nakamoto reported from the NVIDIA event last night that the BTO was to go live at midnight PT last night. Indeed, it's there now.-Bill]The Power Macs ship with Radeon 7500 and GeForce4 MX graphics card. The BTO option will cost $250 on the mid and high-end Power Macs that have GeForce4 MX cards and $350 on the low-end Power Mac with the Radeon 7500. The best news, as we hoped for in yesterday's article, is that Apple will sell a retrofit kit for $399 which is $100 less than the GeForce3, formerly the fastest card. The retrofit kit will be available from the Apple Store in the Spring. We hope that the GeForce4 Titanium will not have a fan and will fit into the G4 Cube.

The GeForce4 Titanium has fabulous specs. While the stock MX version will push 1 billion textured pixels per second, the Titanium model will push 4.9 billion! The Titanium has 128 MB of DDR RAM as opposed to 64 MB. While the Titanium will also drive two monitors simultaneously, it has two digital ports, an ADC and a DVI. A DVI to VGA adapter will be included to use analog monitors. The Titanium is the first graphics card to sport two digital ports. It has a 4x AGP interface which we hope will be backwards compatible with 2x AGP slots. Here is Apple's press release.
