UMAX Scanner Drivers?

Reader Scott Spindler recently wrote, "Is there a time frame for when Umax will release drivers for Mac OS X 10.1.x?" The disappointing reply from UMAX:

Currently there are no plans by Umax to create drivers for Umax scanners to run on OS 9.2,OS 9.2.1,OS 9.2.2 and OS X platforms. The exceptions are the 4400/4450 models. The drivers for the 4400/4450 are currently offered from the Umax website www.umax.com/support in Beta format but are not currently supported by Umax. The production driver disk for the 4400 series will soon be bundled with new 4400/4450 scanner packages and will be supported by Umax.
