Adobe Acrobat Reader v6.0 is Out
Free Adobe® Reader® software just got better! You can use Adobe Reader to read, interact with, and print PDF files generated by such applications as the Adobe Acrobat family of products, Adobe Photoshop® Album, and more.
Now you can:
- Play back QuickTime (Macintosh and Windows®) as well as Macromedia® Flash™, Real, and Windows Media-formatted content (Windows only) that is embedded in an Adobe PDF file
- Read and organize high-fidelity eBooks
- Extract photos from Adobe Photoshop Album slide shows and electronic cards, and send them to online photo services for ordering prints, photo albums, greeting cards, and more (online photo services vary regionally)
- View document layers in Adobe PDF files created with layers preserved
- Print Adobe PDF files from wireless devices at locations offering the EFI PrintMe Network *
- Receive product updates easily using the enhanced Product Updater
Plus, you can still view electronic slide shows and electronic cards created in Photoshop Album and, if the PDF was created using Adobe Document Server for Reader Extensions , digitally sign documents. In addition, Asian-language font support that enables you to view Adobe PDF files that contain Chinese, Japanese, and Korean fonts on non-native systems is now built into Adobe Reader 6.0 so you don't need to download separate font packs.

Fix--Mac OS X 10.2.6 External FireWire Disk Boot Issue: We encountered a major problem with the 10.2.6 Combo Updater over the weekend. We decided to update all of our external FireWire hard drives that we use as backups. Most had 10.2.4 or 10.2.3 installed but one had 10.2.1 and one was new. We used the Mac OS X 10.2.6 Combo Updater on all of them except the new drive. We installed 10.2 for our Jaguar CD on the new drive and then used the Software Update preference panel to update it to 10.2.6.
After the update, none of the four older drives would boot any of our Macs, three G4 Cubes and a PowerBook G4 800. The boot process for all of them froze at the gray screen with a dark gray Apple logo. A restart resulted in a gray screen with a dark gray circle/slash symbol. Only the new drive would boot the computers.
The four updated drives would mount and function fine but not boot a computer whether selected as the boot drive in the Startup Disk preference panel or selected after holding down the "Option" key during startup. We tried any number of things to get the updated drives to boot a computer, all to no avail.
They key to the solution was the new drive. We used the "Archive and Install" installation from the 10.2 CD. Afterward, the four olders drives would boot a computer. Then we used the Software Update preference panel to update to Mac OS 10.2.6. All FireWire drives now boot a computer with 10.2.6.
As a final cleanup we started up from our main drives and deleted the "Previous System" folders left by the Archive and Install procedure on our external FireWire drives.
