Apple Dual 2-GHz G5's Go Fast Everywhere They Pop Up

From reader Oliver Reid,

"I picked up a dual G5 from the Apple Store in Towson, MD, and cancelled my web order (placed July 14 but still not shipped - Oh! The irony!)

All their current stock had gone or was spoken for by 3pm today. They had also sold out the bluetooth mouse.

The manager said that the store, despite the recession, had exceeded its financial goals. The mall was packed: took me 10 minutes to find a parking spot.

Looks like Apple is going to have qood quarter and that the economy is beginning to turn around."

[Update 9:20a 9/27] Additional Hands-On Comments--New 15" PowerBook G4: Our West Coast reporter, Brian Nakamoto, has been waiting for the new 15" aluminum PowerBook G4 to arrive to replace his original TiBook. Yesterday, he picked one up at the local CompUSA. He says:

"I love everything about it so I'll just comment on the few minor concerns:

1. As others have reported, the new latch is not very effective. I may get a sleeve case for my PowerBook if this proves to be an issue while it's in my backpack.

2. It's slightly larger and heavier than my TiBook although I appreciate that it feels solid as a rock compared to the TiBook and compared to flimsy plastic (*cough* Dell *cough*) Wintel notebooks of similar size. My Kamas stand is going to need an update, however! :)

3. It's a shame that Apple uses two 256 SO-DIMMS. I guess they expect everyone to max out the RAM which I'd do if there wasn't such a huge price difference between 512 and 1 GB.

BTW, Carbon Copy Cloner is awesome! Migrated seamlessly from TiBook to AlBook in about an hour and a half."
