Hands-On Report with Photos--Apple Store Event "Live On Stage The New iPod 5.2.03": The event occurred Friday at each Apple Store from 6-10 p.m. As usual the Store closed and re-opened at exactly 6 p.m. When we arrived at The Apple Store in Tysons Corner, VA, at 5:55 p.m. there were about 125 people in line. About 85 were let in at 6 p.m. and Apple Store staff circulated among the rest showing off the new iPod. As usual, store manager Eileen Magee was at the cash register greeting, meeting and ringing up her customers. Business was brisk.
The new iPod is really impressive. Here are some great photos by mentholiptus (Photos1, Photos2) [authorized links]. It is almost unbelievably slimmer and lighter than our "older" 10 GB Model A. We like the rounded edges on the new iPod's face. The all solid-state controls are much better than the mechanical scroll wheel and switches on our Model A. The buttons really look cool when the backlight is activated, i.e. the symbol on the keys glows red. The FireWire port is on the bottom so it drops into the dock for charging. The FireWire cable also fits directly into the iPod but it has a proprietary design. A regular FireWire cable can not be used.
We browsed around the store, took some photos and picked up a commemorative T-shirt and poster. Here are our photos.
