RIAA Loses DMCA Subpoena Power on Appeal by Verizon
according to this CNet article. As we have noted before, the RIAA has been enforcing recording industry copyrights under the so-called Digital Millenium Copyright Act by subpoena-ing the identities of suspected file-to-file sharers from ISPs and then going after the file traders with lawsuits. Verizon balked at turning over the identities of its clients and lost in US District Court but just won on appeal. The RIAA will have to sue first. [Dana Baggett]
