VPI's Big Mac G5 Cluster Blows by 10 TeraFLOPS

At almost 10.3 teraFLOPS, Virginia Tech's 1100 Power Mac G5 dual 2-GHz cluster of 2200 CPUs is the fastest academic computer ever and still in third place behind the Japanese government's Earth Simulator with 5120 CPUs at nearly 36 teraFLOPS and the U.S. government's Linux super computer with 8160 CPUs at almost 13.9 teraFLOPS. Maybe if the USG were to buy only 4000 Power Mac G5s (8000 CPUs) and hook them up as a cluster, it just might have a faster super computer than Japan.
