Tentative Deal May Place iBooks in Some Maine High Schools

According to this Maine Today article, Gov. Baldacci's administration has cut a deal with Apple to rent the iBooks for a year with payment due the next fiscal year in order to expand the iBokk program from 7th and 8th grade to high school. If the state legislature finks out next year as it did this year, then the local school districts are only on the hook for a one-year rental fee. The local high schools would have to opt in and risk footing the whole, but reduced, bill rather than cost sharing with the state so not all high schools may be a part of the expanded program.
