Apple Security Update 2005-007 v1.1 Re-Establishes 64-bit Computing in Tiger

Working around the clock, Apple engineers fixed Security Update 2005-007 so that it now provides for 64-bit computing in Mac OS X 10.4.2 Tiger and posted the new version early this morning. Security Update 2005-007 v1.1 for Mac OS X 10.4.2 Client and Server is available via Software Update or as standalone downloads. According to the Read Me file,

Security Update 2005-007 v1.1 replaces Security Update 2005-007 v1.0 for Tiger systems Mac OS X v10.4.2. Users who have already installed v1.0 on Tiger systems should install v1.1.

Security Update 2005-007 v1.1 provides a combined 32- and 64-bit version of LibSystem to replace the 32-bit version that was delivered in v1.0. No other changes have been made in version 1.1.

We updated each of our Macs with no problem and found no isssues with further extensive use. Reader John Tanski confirmed that Absoft's Fortran Compiler (v9.2) now works with 64-bits. [Bill Fox & Dana Baggett]
