Micromat released TechTool Pro Update v4.0.4. It is available for download from this Micromat Web page. The file updates either v4.0.1 or 4.0.2 to v4.0.4.

What's New in Version 4.0.4

  • Mac OS X v10.4 "Tiger" Compatibility.
  • Corrected reported issues with eDrive creation.
  • Corrected iMac G5 Main Memory information drawer layout.
  • Corrected Video Memory information drawer for older machines.
  • Corrected Optimization window display issue.
  • Corrected Fast User Switching issue.
  • Corrected Gigabit connection speed in Network test.
  • Additional FireWire hard drive support in Drives category.
  • Additional support for Mobility Radeon 9700 in Video Memory test.
  • Enhanced USB information drawer display.
  • Added support for Case-sensitive volumes.
  • Global updates for identifying new machines and hardware.
  • Other minor fixes and updates.

We downloaded and installed TechToolPro 4.0.4 without problems. It features a "smart" installer that found older versions installed on our iMac G5 hard drive, eDrive and FireWire external HD. It give us an opportunity to approve upgrading each one before doing so. We were able to open the application successfully and boot into the eDrive without problems.

The only downside was that on the iMac G5 the installer tossed the former installed version into the Trash and we had to re-enter our TTP4 serial number all over again. But on our original Tangerine iBook, the new application retained the serial number from the old one even though the prior app was also tossed into the Trash. [Dana Baggett]
