X11 is a widely used graphical user interface on UNIX, and on a Macintosh computer, X11 is compatible, fast, and fully integrated with Mac OS X. This means that many existing X11 applications from the UNIX world are available to use for free—but you need to know the "secret handshake" in order to get started.
