Brief Hands-On Note--Microsoft Office 2004 11.2.5 Update
This update fixes vulnerabilities in Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac that an attacker can use to overwrite the contents of your computer's memory with malicious code. This update also fixes issues in Microsoft Entourage 2004 for Mac and includes all of the improvements released in all previous Office 2004 updates.
Here are the details of the improvements:
Improvements for Office 2004--Security is improved
This update fixes vulnerabilities in Office 2004 that an attacker can use to overwrite the contents of your computer's memory with malicious code.
Improvements for Excel 2004--Security is improved
This update fixes vulnerabilities in Microsoft Excel 2004 for Mac that an attacker can use to overwrite the contents of your computer's memory with malicious code.
Improvements for Entourage 2004--Eliminated bogus warning
This update fixes an issue for users of Entourage 2004 11.2.3 and Mac OS X 10.4.5 or later that caused all open calendar event windows to display the warning:
"Event and computer time zones do not match. In Calendar Views, the event time is adjusted to display correctly."
Exchange and Entourage performance improved
This update improves Exchange performance in organizations with Macintosh client computers running Entourage. Office identities created before installing Office 2004 Service Pack 2 and subsequently upgraded to Office 2004 version 11.2.x had synchronization problems if the Exchange mailbox was moved after the identity was upgraded.
We downloaded the v11.2.5 updater and applied it to our copies of Microsoft Office 2004 with no problems. The we used Word, Excel and PowerPoint for awhile without seeing any buggy behavior. We do not use Entourage but we opened it and quit it with no issues. [Bill Fox]
