Brief Hands-On Report--Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac 12.0.1 Update

Microsoft released Office:mac 2008 12.0.1 Update. It is available via Microsoft AutoUpdate or as a stand-alone updater from this Microsoft Web page. According to Microsoft,

This update fixes critical issues in Office 2008, including issues that might cause Office 2008 applications to stop responding or quit unexpectedly.

The details on the update (KB948057) state that it: provides security fixes for running on Leopard, the installer no longer grants restricted users unauthorized access and provides stability and performance improvements to each application.

For some reason, Microsoft AutoUpdate 2.1.1 said the Office:mac 2008 installation was up to date on both my Mac Pro and MacBook Air so I downloaded the stand-alone updater and updated Office 2008 on both computers with no problem. I have been having a few unexpected quits on a couple of Excel 2004 spreadsheets so I opened them and manipulated the data without causing an unexpected quit. [Bill Fox]
