Brief Hands-On Note--TechTool Pro 4.5.1 Beta 2 (Universal) is Out

Beta 1 of Micromat's hard disk and hardware maintenance utility expired last weekend. Beta 2, available for download via MacUpdate.com, should carry users with Intel-based Macs until the final release slated for later in July. Aside from resetting the expiration date, Beta 2 includes:

• Fixed issue with eDrive creation/deletion on Intel Macs.
  
• Addressed reported Disk Controller looping issue.
  
• Updated to the Network test for Intel Macs.
  
• Updated to the Volume Structure test.
  
• Updated Boot Camp partition detection in eDrive.
  
• Updated Macintosh model identification strings.

A version 4 serial number is needed to use the Beta of TechTool Pro 4.5.1.

We downloaded, installed and opened it without problems. It picked up the registration of our PPC version 4.1.1 of TTP, possibly a refinement from Beta 1. The opening screen indicates Beta 2 will be operative for 25 days. [Dana Baggett & Bill Fox]
