Apple released EFI Firmware Updates for Intel-Based Macs and they are available for download via Software Update or as stand-alone updaters from these Apple Web pages:
According to Apple,
This EFI Firmware Update fixes several Boot Camp, start up, and wake-from-sleep issues on [Intel-based] computers.
Before downloading and installing the EFI Firmware Update on two iMacs (a 20" 2GHz Core Duo and a 24" 2.33GHz Core 2 Duo) we downloaded
also just out, and burned the CD. This CD will restore the original firmware should the update process be inadvertently interrupted.
We downloaded and installed the new EFI Firmware Update on the two iMacs no problems. Our Intel-based iMacs were both updated to Boot ROM Version ...B01. They run fine and sleep and wake well after the update.
WARNING: Apparently, the MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.2 is NOT for the new 15" MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo. The update does not appear in Software Update using our new 15" 2.33GHz MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo. Its firmware Boot ROM Version is already MBP22.00A5.B00 and the updater would install MBP11.0055.B08, seemingly for the original 15" MacBook Pro Core Duo. We did not try to install the 1.2 update from the stand-alone updater and do not recommend doing so until Apple clarifies this issue.
Update: Readers note that the MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.2 launched from the stand-alone file on a MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo presents a message that the update is not needed. [Bill Fox & Dana Baggett]
