Brief Hands-On Report--Mozilla released SeaMonkey 1.0.7 and Thunderbird 1.5.0.9 Security Updates

On the heals of Firefox 2.0.0.1, Mozilla released SeaMonkey 1.0.7, its integrated internet suite and Thunderbird 1.5.0.9, its stand-alone email client.

According to the Release Notes, Sea Monkey 1.0.7 and Thunderbird 1.5.0.9 contain stability fixes and the same security fixes. The security fixes are:

MFSA 2006-74 Mail header processing heap overflows
MFSA 2006-73 Mozilla SVG Processing Remote Code Execution
MFSA 2006-72 XSS by setting img.src to javascript: URI
MFSA 2006-71 LiveConnect crash finalizing JS objects
MFSA 2006-70 Privilege escalation using watch point
MFSA 2006-69 CSS cursor image buffer overflow (Windows only)
MFSA 2006-68 Crashes with evidence of memory corruption (rv:1.8.0.9/1.8.1.1)

two less than Firefox 2.0.0.1.

We downloaded both updates and used each for awhile. SeaMonkey is the primary Web application of one of our staff members and we ran into not problems. Thunderbird is our backup email client to Apple Mail and primary email client whenever we have to use a Windows machine. It worked fine as well. [Dana Baggett & Bill Fox]
