Graphics Board Sales Increase in Q3 as Does Nvidia's Market Share

The latest report from Jon Peddie Research estimates that shipments of add-in graphics boards (vs integrated chipsets) increased nearly 11 percent in the third quarter of 2006 over the second quarter and nearly 8 percent over the 2005 third quarter. However, the total value continued to decline and was 12 percent less that the 2005 third quarter, reflecting a significant 20 percent decrease in price per board year over year.

Add-in graphics boards continued to be used predominantly in the performance sector (75%). The mainstream sector stood at 13 percent, workstations at 5 percent, enthusiasts at 4 percent and the value sector at 3 percent.

Nvidia at 59 percent continued to gain market share from ATI/AMD at 40 percent. All others were only 0.6 percent. [Bill Fox]
