MacsOnly.com begins 12th Year on the Web

Yesterday was the eleventh anniversary of our publishing relevant information for the vast majority of Mac users. In 1995 we started out calling ourselves "Everything Macintosh" as an adjunct to being a volunteer assisting the monitor of CompuServe's Mac forum. We wrote simple guides for CompuServe on how to get on CompuServe when using Classic Mac OS and helped other Mac users with their problems. We transferred our information to the Web and kept a growing list of Mac- and Apple-related Web links.

When we discovered another Web site with the same name that claimed to pre-date us by a few weeks, we changed our name to "For Mac Users Only." That name was soon contracted to just Macs Only! when we began accepting advertising.

Back in 1995 there were only a handful of Mac Web sites that did anything more than simply post Web links. Several of them, like MacCentral (now Macworld), became large commercial successes. Others, like the venerable MacInTouch dating back a year earlier to 1994 and O'Grady's PowerPage have continued to provide valuable news and information in much the same mode as in 1995. Some bit the dust. But today there are dozens, if not hundreds, of Mac Web sites. To help deal with this, MacSurfer has continued to be the pre-eminent Mac Web site indexer since 1995.

As we enter our 12th year, we look forward to Macworld 2007 in a little under two weeks. We'll be there and report on Steve Jobs keynote, provide hands-on reports on the new Apple products and walk the show floor for several days, reporting on new products for the Mac world. Until then, news will be light as it has been for the past week but we will continue to post following New Years Day on Monday. [Bill Fox]
