M$ Cancels Windows Media Player for Mac--Get Free Flip4Mac Instead

Microsoft announced that it will no longer develop Windows Media Player for the Mac needed to play WMV files, according to CNet. However, by installing Flip4Mac v2.0.1 QuickTime components, available for free from Telestream or Microsoft, one can play WMV files in QuickTime. Microsoft apparently made the deal with Telestream. Telestream also sells upgrades of Flip4Mac that allow the import and export of WMV files.

We downloaded Flip4Mac 2.0.1 and installed it. QuickTime 7.0.4 now runs the WMV files that we tried. Make sure you have v2.0.1 to run with QuickTime 7.0.4 since previous versions have problems with QT 7.0.4. [Bill Fox]
