Apple's Boot Camp Public Beta Expiration to cause Issues

The Boot Camp public beta won't expire until Mac OS X 10.5 "Leopard" comes out or September 30th whichever comes first. However, when it does, the expiration will cause some issues. As best we can tell, Leopard is on track for a late spring release so the expiration time is nearing.

The good news is that the Windows partition created by Boot Camp public beta will remain intact and usable. The bad news, according to a CNet article, is that the Boot Camp Assistant software will quit working so there will be no way to manage or easily delete the Windows partition. Furthermore, there will be no additional driver updates.

Since Apple has not indicated that it will make a final version for use with Mac OS X 10.4.x "Tiger," free or for sale, plan accordingly if you do not plan to upgrade to Leopard. More... [Dana Baggett]
