From the Dark Side--Believe It or Not, Windows XP is Faster than Windows Vista

TomsHardware.com completed an extensive test of the speed of the new Windows Vista vs that of Windows XP, the operating system it replaces. They tested a variety of 3D games, other applications and benchmarking tools on both operating systems with a PC using a 2.93GHz Intel Core 2 Extreme CPU, an ATI Radeon X1950 graphics card (512MB VRAM) and 2GB of system RAM--a very modern, fast PC.

The clear winner? Windows XP and its not due the new Aero GUI. It's due to more background services and the lack of OpenGL support.
