Steve Jobs' WWDC Keynote addressed Leopard, Safari 3 on Windows and iPhone Application Development

The main theme of Apple CEO Steve Jobs' keynote address to the assembled throng at its Worldwide Developers Conference Monday morning was Mac OS X 10.5 "Leopard" as expected. In fact, the presentation of just 10 of Leopard's 300 new features took all but the last few minutes of the keynote address. The main new Leopard features not previously shown are a new desktop with a 3D dock and transparent menu bar and a new finder with an iTunes-style sidebar and Cover Flow view, a really cool fourth view of documents and folders like album covers in iTunes.

Also announced by EA's Bing Gordon was that EA will be bringing is main games to the Mac, like Command & Conquer 3, Battlefield 2142, Need for Speed--Carbon and Harry Potter starting in July plus its coming sports games. John Carmack of id Software showed their latest visual experience coming to the Mac.

Steve Jobs announced that Safari 3 Public Beta was being released yesterday and that there was a version that worked on Windows XP and Vista. See article above.

Steve Jobs also gave developers what they were looking for, a way to develop applications for the iPhone. Developers will have to use Web 2.0 via Safari 3 rather than directly designing applications in the iPhone. Making Safari 3 available to Widows greatly expands the pool of developers and creativity potential.

WWDC 2007 looks like it will be a great success with over 5,000 attendees, the largest ever, and 1200 Apple engineers participating. [Bill Fox]
