~30 Startup Delay (mainly 6400's and PowerBases) -- continued: WHOA!

Before opening the case of my PowerBase 180 to check out the weak motherboard battery solution suggested by a reader on MacFixIt, I checked my manual. The PowerComputing specs call for a 3.6v lithium battery not a 4.5v alkaline battery which MacFixit's reader had discovered in his 6400 to be putting out only 4.1v. I opened up the case and there indeed was a 3.6v lithium battery putting out exactly 3.6v according to my trusty voltmeter. The startup delay is annoying but certainly not annoying enough for me to put a 4.5v battery on my motherboard in place of the spec 3.6v battery to see what happens. So neither the weak battery nor the forced CD ROM startup "solutions" work on my PowerBase 180. Anyone trying either of these suggested solutions on a 6400, please let me know the results.
