awestruck

It is hard to find the right word--awestruck maybe? I got a chance to use the new Apple PowerMac G3/233 at our local MicroCenter last night. Geez-Louise, it blows away my 8500 with a 225 Mhz 604e tuned to 256 MHz with a system bus tweak from 50 to 51.3. For example, MS Word 6.01a loaded in just under 3 seconds, Excel and PowerPoint at just under 4 and Netscape 3.02 at just under 5. These PowerPC 750 (G3) CPU's are incredible! I had a line of people behind me wanting to try it so I didn't have the nerve to reboot to see how long it took to load Mac OS 8. The salesman said, after relinquishing my seat, "... fast enough that you don't mind it." Very impressive. ClubMac has them for $1890 and MacWEEK raised the spectre of a price war among resellers. The PowerLogix PowerForce G3 250/250 provided for testing in Macs Only!'s PowerBase is scheduled to arrive today--waiting to try it out is even harder now.
