On the upside, reader Norm Gilbert's experience in the San Diego, CA, CompUSA turned out well:

"Luckily, I hooked up with Gary, who, although not Mac savvy, was VERY customer savvy. He does all the special orders for the San Diego location. He let me use the phone to call Visioneer long distance and get the product number for the Mac version and told me I'd have it before Christmas. He said it took one day to get a SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) put into their inventory system and then a day or two to get the product from one of their distributors (Merisel or Ingram). Sure enough, I got a call from Gary on Tuesday the 23rd that my PaperPort Mac had arrived. (Great product, BTW)"
