• "?" on Restart: Not fixed in Mac OS 8 :-(
• Won't Mount CD: Not fixed in Mac OS 8 :-(
• Won't Mount SCSI Devices: Still fixed in Mac OS 8 :-)
• L2 Cache Disabled: Fixed in Mac OS 8 :-)
• Slow Initial Startup: Not fixed in Mac OS 8 :-)
  • PowerBase 180: 28 seconds to gray-lit screen.
  • PowerMac 8500/120: 10 seconds to gray-lit screen.
  • PowerMac 7100/80: 16 seconds to gray-lit screen.
  • PowerBook 3400/180: 13 seconds to gray-lit screen.

Starting Up With Mac OS 8 CD Causes System Error: This problem, first carried on For MacOS Users Only!'s Mac OS 8 Installation and Use Page (7/20), with Apple-brand CD-ROM drives is caused by AppleTalk being turned off according to Apple. I have confirmed this on an 8500/120, 7100/80 and 3400/180. Turning AppleTalk on (it must be in the control panels folder) and then restarting holding down the "c" key allows the Mac OS 8 CD to load normally as the startup disk and to perform a normal installation.
