Out Of Box Power Mac G4/400 (Sawtooth) Performance

The biggest drawback so far of my accepting a 400 instead of waiting forever for the 450 that I ordered is that I've always got to add "Sawtooth" when I write about it. There is also that fading feeling that Apple ripped me off for $350 but Apple gave me a choice and I made it--no looking back.The Power Mac G4 came loaded with Mac OS 8.6 (ROM version 2.5.1) instead of Mac OS 9 even though it shipped to my reseller after 10/23. I ran the standard MacBench 5.0 suite of performance tests on it right out of the box. Then I initialized the 20 GB hard drive and created 2 10 GB partitions and installed Mac OS 9. Then I ran the MacBench 5.0 suite of performance tests again. Here are the results:
