Macs Only!

On Wednesday, Macs Only! noted a NEWS.COM article about less than lukewarm interest in cable internet service and asked readers to inquire about it because of its high bandwidth (like water flow rate). Bare Feats tested cable service against a 33.6K modem dial-up service. It was a blowout in favor of cable as might be expected.

From reader Alan Bailey, "I thought you may find the following experience interesting: I was playing around with the PowerLogix G3 cache utility v.9 and had some interesting things happen to the disk speed: When I set the cache to 1.5 @ 266 (on my stock G3 266 minitower) AND ran RamDoubler (triple the ram), the disk registered at 468 (vs. 290 without RamDoubler). However, processor speed was down to 810 from 922. I've tripled the ram to 96 Mb for this configuration. I'm running with only 32 mb of physical ram as my 128 mb chip hasn't arrived...." The PowerMac G3 has an EIDE hard drive that uses CPU time unlike a SCSI.

From Mike Breeden, "I've posted a review of the new MacCPU Cheetah SCSI Upgrade Bundle. The fastest and easiest SCSI upgrade you can buy. Read all about it at Accelerate Your Mac!"
