Techwire (9/6) reported that PowerComputing has a license to bundle Mac OS 8 with its Mac clone computers until January

The Hewlett-Packard and PowerPC items seem truely scary. Let's hope that the first is false and that the second is mere sabre rattling but if not, Jobs asked us to think differently about Apple. Anyway, what's wrong if Apple were to use a variety of CPU's? The rest seem to be just confirmation that things are working out as expected. Even Steve Jobs' apparent focus on a potential "NetMac" is not unexpected as MacInTouch's list of Steve Job's quotes demonstrates. One could also list similar quotes by Larry Ellison, now on Apple's Board. While not for everyone, the "NetMac" is a great idea that I think Apple should pursue while the opportunity still exists. One concern, of course, is that the Desktop Mac will be scrapped or the resources that it needs to continue to broaden the performance gap over the Wintels and to innovate will be diverted. This happening any time soon seems unlikely given Apple's huge existing investment in the desktop platform and its Mac OS and Rhapsody OS. Then again, Apple also invested in CHRP and has killed other things after a large investment....
