FLASH!

Mac OS 8.1: The downloadable release is on Apple's servers (16 MB to 22 MB) and predicably they are bogged down.
According to MacInTouch's Saturday note, developers were able to download the final version then. I'm not sure why developers got a jump on the rest of us with the final release. Perhaps its so they can finalize any needed changes to their applications before the rest of us start finding those little incompatibilities--good idea. Late Saturday, Version Tracker posted that it was on the Macworld ftp server and a MacNet and University of Wisconsin server. The latter was not public when I got through but only for UW IP addresses. The MacNet server only allows 50 users and never let me on. The Macworld server also never let me on despite several attempts at 15-minute intervals throughout the wee hours of 1-5am EST. Version Tracker has since removed the Macworld link.
