Reader Dick Chanslors' suggestion is to manually remove all vestiges of IE3.01, especially the Java files, and then install v4.0 with extensions off to eliminate crashes. Dick also reports he's unable to get the offline browser function to work. I had one type 10 error crash today on the clean-installed 8500 when I accessed the Apple Online Tech Support site and troubles downloading, getting HTML error messages.

From Erica Marceau, "If you're a Kaleidoscope scheme designer then you'll be very interested in a new Kaleidoscope contest that is sponsored by Apple Wizards, a Mac OS and Apple e-zine, located here."

FWB posted CD-ROM ToolKit v3.01 updater. The updater fixes a couple of bugs and adds supported devices. [Thanks, Version Tracker]

MacCentral has a great interview with Pat Berry, Mactell's Vice President, about the future of Mactell as a clone maker. He says that Mactell is devoted to expanding the Mac OS installed base by focusing on markets that Apple is not strong in.

Another beta version of QuickTime v3.0b11c2 (10 MB) was posted by Apple. I had to try a half-dozen times to get a good download of this very large file. I recommend waiting a month for Mac OS 8.1.
