Apple Expo '99 Paris--Steve Jobs' Keynote

is today, probably *was* today (4:30a EDT) by the time most of you read this. The Macs Only! consensus is that he will not announce the next iMac revision at the Paris event but later this year in a special Apple Event. We expect Steve to cover the PowerMac G4, iBook and Mac OS 9 as he did at Seybold and as Apple did at the World PC Expo in Japan last week. We will post some news on Steve's keynote when it becomes available. Unfortunately, Macs Only!'s thought to cover the event in person never got past the "Paris? Great idea, it's not too late!" stage. [Update: From Rick Bush, "I attended Job's keynote in Paris today and he did not announce anything really new. He outlined the four product lines -- pro and consumer desktops and portables. His only noteworthy comment was that he said he promised to be shipping the ibook by mid September and here it is -- Sept. 15th He said ibooks would ship begin shipping from Apple today and they should be to distributors by next week. He was well received by the Paris crowd which crowded the expo to see the ibook and new G4s." He also said that iBook pre-orders reached 160,000, up from the 140,000 announced at Seybold. Here's Apple's press release--Bill]

Macs Only! At World PC Expo In Japan: Check out the top of Power Support Co.'s booth (right) at the World PC Expo which took place at the Nippon Convention Center (Makuhari Messe). The NCC is located in Chiba on the coast between downtown Tokyo and the Tokyo International Airport. The crowds were huge according to Macs Only!'s partners, similar at the peak to Tokyo's infamous commuter train stations at rush hour. Power Support's booth showed off a number of its products as depicted in the lower photo, including OST Switch (iReset Buttons), DaiMac stand and Spartacamus PowerBook stand. All are available from Macs Only! via MacImports.Com. And yes, that's a thin Sony Vaio model on the stand at the right, a very popular notebook in Japan. It was, after all a PC expo, no? Apple needs to build a light subnotebook for travelers to replace the terrific but somewhat aging PowerBook 2400c. Also, check out Jason O'Grady's PowerPage photo gallery, especially photos PDRM0395-402 for iDee and Power Support products available from MacImports.Com.
