Apple System Profiler v2.4.2 (Mac OS 9) Displays RAM Speed

in the G4, iBook and new iMacs. Now you can tell the speed of the memory that you are being sold. PC100 RAM for the Mac generally comes in speeds of 222, 322, 323 and 333 although there are other combinations. 222 is the fastest and 333 is the "slowest"--none are slow and all meet Apple's specs. Checking all my DIMMS, my B&W G3 came with 222 as did my G4 and my daughter's iBook. My new iMac DV/SE came with 322. The third party PC100 RAM DIMMS that I bought as "222" (that's what I requested) turn out to be 222 for the iBook, 322 for the G4 and 333 for the G3. Dana's new iMac 350 had a 322 and his daughter's iBook reports 333 after installing third party RAM. Curiously only one number is reported for iBooks with 2 DIMMs while each DIMM gets a separate speed number in the other two Macs. I don't notice any difference in application speed or performance if I use just the 222 in my G3 or the 333 so I don't think it matters much most of the time. [Dana Baggett]
