New Redesigned Powerbooks
running 333 MHz (512K cache) and 400 MHz (1 MB cache) G3's will be out May 20th. They will cost $2499 and $3499 respectively and will have DVD (only the 400?) and 14.1" displays. They are slimmer by 20 per cent and lighter, weighing in at 5.9 lbs while the industry standard is 7-8 lbs, but have the same pillow shape and white apple on black color. Battery life is up to 5 hours thanks in part to Mac OS 8.6's new nanokernel. The new 400's BYTEMark at 13.3 while the fastest Pentium II 366 MHz Wintel gets only 5.0. No FireWire but they have two USB ports and one PCMCIA slot. Apple is giving out one an hour free at the WWDC and Steve picked the first two winners.
