Early Reviews Claim Power Mac G4 867 MHz Not So Fast
but can you believe them? ZDNet says that the new 867 ran neck and neck with an older 500DP and a minute faster out of seven than the 733 tested earlier this year on their Photoshop tests but then says that the RAM sizes weren't equivalent. Anyone knows that RAM makes a big difference in Photoshop performance. The 533DP tested faster at Photoshop than the 733 and it would be faster than the 500DP as well. ZDNet got only 42.5 fps with the 867 on Quake III Arena while we got 52-66 on our 533DP depending on resolution which is not specified by ZDNet. Both computers used an NVIDIA GeForce2 MX graphics card. TechTV tested the new 867SP against a 733SP and found it to be only slightly faster (13 seconds overall) at its Photoshop test. It's not that the 867 is slow, it's just that its not as fast as might be expected from the MHz increase. Both of these reviews are very short on documentation for their speed tests so it is hard to see how they might be flawed if they are. At least both reviews rated the new Power Mac G4 867 pretty well.
