First Apple Store Opens May 19 in Macs Only!'s Backyard

Just 2 miles down Rt. 123 (i.e. Maple Ave. or Chain Bridge Rd. as it is also known) from our global headquarters, Apple will open its first store outside of its company store at Apple's headquarters, 1 Infinite Loop in Cupertino, CA. Although details were not known until this Monday, on March 6 we got wind of the new store and were first to post the scoop.

Various web sites, including MarketWatch, Washington Post and News.Com, reported that the Apple Store will be located in a Tysons Corner shopping center, probably Tysons Galleria (International Drive, McLean, VA 22102). The area called Tysons Corner is the location of the largest complex of shopping centers in Northern Virginia where Vienna, VA, abuts McLean, VA. Tysons Galleria is the upscale cousin of the original Tysons Shopping Center and is anchored by Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus. There's a CompUSA with a fairly good Apple Store in a Store in another shopping center in Tysons Corner.

A press briefing is scheduled for next Monday, May 15. While we are currently scheduled to be out of town until the 16th, we will bring you news and photos from the opening on Saturday, May 19. [Kevin Stacy and Dana Baggett]
