Happy Birthday to Us!
Today we start our seventh year as an unofficially not-for-profit, Mac-centric web site. Macs Only! was initiated to provide support to Mac users who were new to the internet and new to Macs. Apple's CEO Michael Spindler was sacked right after we started and Gil Amelio was brought on board. Initially called "Everything Macintosh", we offered advice through a static web site of resource links. Soon we began offering interactive advice and periodic news and commentary that became daily. We went through two other names, "For Mac Users Only!" and "For Mac OS Users Only!" before settling on the shorter name Macs Only! with our own domain name. The latter came just as Apple CEO Gil Amelio was ousted and Steve Jobs took Apple's reins.
As advertising revenue seized most of the early Mac web sites, we accepted only enough advertising to cover our minimal costs to ensure our complete independence. Today, our costs are covered by MacImports.Com, a minimalist store that our editor-in-chief started in early 1999 to provide Mac users with the opportunity to obtain unique items for their Macs from Japan. We have an all volunteer staff who are brought together by our admiration of all things Mac. In addition, our readers contribute much to the content directly or as leads. We believe that is the way the web should be and are dedicated to furthering that tradition.
