iTunes 2.0

is available for download from Apple's server. What's new in iTunes 2.0? This version includes Apple’s new Sound Enhancer, a multi-band equalizer, 22 equalizer presets, crossfading between tracks, iPod synchronization and the ability to burn CDs with MP3-format data. We've installed iTunes 2 on several Macs (TiBook, PM G4 533DP, G4 Cube, PM 7300) with several partitions each and with no problems. However, some Macintouch readers have reported the loss of partitions on multi-partition drives [Robert Suznick]. There are also reports of problems on several listservers to which we subscribe. A significant number of those reports come from those who are fans of a competing product. We did observe something weird with the installer. We downloaded the 10.1 version and after the restart, the installer's icon had changed from the OS X .dmg icon to the Classic OS .smi icon while still called "iTunes 2 Mac OS X." [Update 2:30p ET--The Mac OS X Installer has been pulled. The OS 9 installer is still available. The following note appeared subsequently:

"An important note for those who have downloaded iTunes 2.0 for Mac OS X:
Apple has identified an installer issue with iTunes 2.0 for Mac OS X that affects a limited number of systems running Mac OS X with multiple volumes (drives or partitions) mounted. For those systems, running the iTunes 2.0 installer can result in loss of user data. While this error is highly unlikely to affect most users, Apple strongly advises that anyone who has downloaded the 2.0 version of iTunes for Mac OS X, as well as anyone who has a beta version of iTunes 2.0 for Mac OS X, immediately remove the iTunes.pkg installer file from their system. A new version that corrects this issue, iTunes 2.0.1 for Mac OS X, will be available for downloading at www.apple.com/itunes/download. Users who have already installed iTunes 2.0 without incident do not need to reinstall iTunes 2.0.1, but they should still immediately remove the 2.0 installer file from their system. This issue does not affect users of iTunes 2.0 for Mac OS 9."
