Mac OS 9.1 Issues
1. Rewind v1.0.3 is incompatible with 9.1 according to Power On Software's note to Macs Only! It causes freezes when attempting to connect to a server or another computer on a LAN using Chooser/AppleShare. It also prevents CDs from mounting, at least in some iMacs. [Ken Glinka]
2. M$ Office 98 Type 1/2 Quits is fixed by deleting 5 M$ extensions, rebooting and launching a MSO 98 application to cause Microsoft Office First Run to replace the deleted extensions. We also found that if we subsequently ran all the MSO 98 updaters again, that the Type 1/2 quits returned.
3. PowerLogix G3/G4 Profiler: Opening the application causes a hard freeze. The extension causes a freeze during start up.
There are other issues posted to Apple's Support Discussion Board that we have not confirmed: printing, modems, CDs, etc. Mac OS 9.1 seems to be stable and fast on most of our computers after dealing with the issues noted above. However, there seem to be more instabilities with our Microsoft software (Outlook Express 5.02 and Internet Explorer 5.0), i.e. quits and freezes especially when waking our PowerBook 2000 from sleep. Dana Baggett, who maintains his iMac 350 SL as a Microsoft-free zone and uses Netscape 6, reports smooth sailing. Our 8500 is significantly less stable generally with 9.1.
