Westfarms Mall Apple Store Opening Report with Photos

"Hi. i was at the West Farms Mall Apple Store grand opening and have some pictures.

The West Farms store is inside an upscale mall about 15 miles west of Hartford Connecticut (about 2 hours from New York City or Boston). The store is right outside of Nordstrom on the 2nd floor of the mall and the mall is right off of Interstate 84 which is a very major interstate in this area.

The group that was at the mall for several hours was again fairly compact and well equipped with wireless laptop gear. I arrived at the store at about 10 minutes to 9am for a 10am opening to find about 3 dozen people in line. The crowd quickly grew to a couple of hundred by 9:30am. The Apple crew was walking up and down the line showing off the iPod, taking pictures, and making movies. They also were showing off the latest laptops. This is a departure from the past 3 openings I attended where the Apple people mostly stayed at the head of the line or inside the store except for when Evian water was offered to the crowd. Evian was not distributed at West Farms, apparently due to mall regulations.

The crowd was enthusiastic and as 10 am approached we were doing "give me an A..." chants and attempting a "the wave". You just have to do this.

The Westfarms Mall is located in Farmington, CT. As Tadd mentioned, it is only 2 hours from New York City. With no stores yet in NYC, this one is close enough for NYC residents to get out and see an Apple Store. In Tadd's pictures, the iPod looks even smaller than we thought. We'll have to get over to the Tysons Corner Apple Store and check it out.
