[April Fools Day Item] "Fastest Mac on the Planet:" Apple Re-releases G4 Cube at 1.1 GHz.
The new 1.1 GHz Cube comes in one configuration loaded with 1 GB RAM, an 80 GB hard drive, a slot-loading DVD-RW SuperDrive and NVIDIA GeForce4 Titanium 4600 graphics. The new Cube, at $2,599, will be periodically updated so that it always has the fastest CPU, largest hard drive, best optical drive and fastest graphics available on any Mac. In addition, if you buy AppleCare, Apple will update your Cube's CPU and graphics at nominal cost so that it will remain the "Fastest Mac on the planet" for the three year term.
"The new 'Fastest Mac on the planet' is for the discriminating individual who truly appreciates fine design and superb engineering but who also wants to own what will remain the very best personal computer," said Steve Jobs. "Our special AppleCare program will ensure that one's investment is maintained at the very top of the line for at least three years and at nominal cost. We added a slowly revolving and perfectly silent fan inside the Cube to ensure that we can do so," he added. "This fan has cool antigravity bearings and, while silent, is a real honker in terms of air flow."
According to the press release, the new 1.1 GHz G4 Cube is available now for $2,599 from a special Apple Store web page. The new Cube is pictured here with the matching Cinema displays that will be available at the end of April.
[This item was a prank, of course. Can you imagine Steve Jobs being excited about a fan?]
