Improvements for Entourage X SR 1

Quartz Text Smoothing--If you are using Mac OS X version 10.1.5 or later, Entourage X enables Quartz text smoothing by default. Quartz text smoothing makes text more readable by using the Quartz drawing engine to smooth the edges of characters on the screen.

Database Improvements--The size limit on an Entourage database has been increased from 2 gigabytes (GB) to 4 GB. If the size of your database approaches the limit, you will be alerted so that you can delete messages and items you no longer need. In addition, Entourage X can now rebuild some damaged databases that could not be rebuilt before.

Performance Improvements--Entourage X now requires less usage of your computer's hard drive, which not only improves performance, but might improve battery life for laptop computers. If your identity is stored on a network volume, you might notice a performance improvement because Entourage X now needs to access your identity on the network volume less often.

Newsgroup Passwords--Like other account types, Entourage X now saves passwords for news servers in the MacOS keychain.

MSN Mail Support--Entourage X now supports MSN mail accounts. In the Entourage Account Setup Assistant, type your MSN account name, and then type your MSN account sign-in name and password when prompted.

IMAP Mail Improvements--If you have an Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) mail account, you might notice the following improvements to Entourage X:
• Synchronizing folders when you switch from working offline to working online is now more efficient. To learn about synchronizing folders, see Entourage Help.
• Entourage X now displays information about messages that are on the IMAP server more accurately, such as the number of unread messages in a folder.

Problems Printing Messages--Some users who upgraded from Entourage 2001 to Entourage X had problems printing because the scale for printing imported messages was not set correctly. The scale is now set correctly for all messages in Entourage X.

Sorting by the Furigana Field in Japanese versions of Entourage--In the Japanese version of Entourage X, you can now sort the Address Book by using the Furigana field.

Unlike many web reports, we had no problem installing the Office v.X Service Release 1 on numerous Macs, each one had been upgraded from Office 98 or Office 2001. Most, but not all, had a partition or drive with the previous version of Office and Mac OS 9.2.2 still installed.

In addition, we note that the Read Me states that Quartz Text Smoothing will work with Mac OS X 10.1.5 which has not been released yet by Apple.

The shortcomings in Office v.X 1.0 that we had noticed in every day use were slowness in Word, Entourage not completely emptying the deleted items folder and Entourage returning a "%23" instead of a "#" in URLs when clicked. Word does seem faster but there are still lags in updating a long document. The deleted items folder is emptied but the "#" in a URL is still wrongly reported as a "%23" in a browser when clicked.
