Mac OS X 10.1.3 Update Notes

In addition to the installations that we reported in yesterday's edition, we upgraded three Macs on a Windows NT network: a 500 MHz iBook (Dual USB), a 266 MHz Beige Power Mac G3 and a 450 MHz G4 Cube. All three installations, like those reported yesterday, completed without drama. From our brief experience:

The Good News

- Mail handles HTML in email generally faster
- The copy from Classic and paste in Carbon apps bug appears to be fixed
- Connecting to a Windows NT share with the iBook no longer causes a Finder quit
- No new problems have cropped up so far

The Bad News

- Connecting to a Windows NT share still causes a Finder quit on the Beige G3 and Cube
- Still can't connect to a Windows NT LDAP address directory
- Our Microtech Zio! SmartMedia card reader doesn't work with the new driver

Despite our generally favorable experience with 10.1.3 update, there are reports of DVD player problems which we have not seen.

Apple posted a stand alone Mac OS 10.1.3 Combo Updater. This updater can be used to update from any version of Mac OS X 10.1 (Mac OS X 10.1, Mac OS X 10.1.1, or Mac OS X 10.1.2). You still need to apply the Security and Installer Updates after 10.1. [Dana Baggett]
