Apple Hard Drive Update 1.0 for Mac OS X

is out and available for download vis the Software Update preference panel or from this Apple KBase web page.

The Hard Drive Update 1 improves the longevity of some hard drives shipped in certain Power Mac G4 computers, including:

Power Mac G4 Cube
Power Mac G4 (AGP Graphics)
Power Mac G4 (Digital Audio)
Power Mac G4 (Gigabit Ethernet)
Power Mac G4 (Quicksilver)

Most drives do not need this update. You can check the drives in your computer by running this update. If an update is needed, you will be given a chance to quit and perform backup before continuing with the update.

This is the OS X companion to the earlier release for Mac OS 9.

From Dana Baggett, I ran the installer "successfully." Which means nothing was installed. If the drive needs updating you get an alert warning you to backup first, then install. But, the negative option is a message to say the update isn't necessary. I received neither message. Just "installed satisfactorily." Dana has a G4 Cube.
