Blackout to Affect Apple's G5 Production Schedule?

Not necessarily. From Dana Baggett, The G5 is being made in IBM's Fishkill, NY, facility but we learn from this eWeek article (top of 2nd page) that the Vermont IBM fab plant is also making G5 chips. Vermont was unaffected by the power outage.

"Our main fab in Burlington [Vermont] was unaffected; there was a power blip but that wasn't an issue," IBM spokesman Bill O'Leary said. "The Fishkill area was hit in fact, as you know, and the fab was affected."

In addition, the article cites some over-production. Speculation about the power outage affecting Apple's G5 shipping schedule significantly is just that--speculation. It appears to us to be minimal, if at all.

[Update note: eWeek fixed its reference to a non-existent Canadian province. And we've added some clarifying words.]
