From the Dark Side--M$ Buys Off Universities

according to this Washington Post article. Microsoft apparently uses $25 million gifts of software, hardware and cash to buy loyalty to their products. Of course, only they can afford to do this on that scale because of their monopoly so the rich gets richer. If M$ offered true philanthropy to foster technology development, they would offer just cash to be spent as the universities see fit. [Dana Baggett]
