The newly announced SmartDisk FirePower, a fast FireWire 800 Mbps 3.5" external hard drive with a capacity of 200 GB, should be available for shipping in 2-3 months. The first computer with this new generation FireWire port is Apple's 17" PowerBook G4. A SmartDisk representative responded to a reporter's question that there is no speed benefit to the currently available 2.5" hard drives so only a 3.5" desktop model will come out in the near future.
