In producing TVs the consumer is protected from flaws because "[a]t the end of a television set production line, the TV is tested." Kolawa stated. "If there's a problem, it's the flaw in the production line that's repaired, not each individual TV set."

Software manufacturing does exactly the opposite. The industry sends out numerous bug-ridden copies to consumers and then discovers and fixes one error at a time but just for the attentive subset of consumers. [Dana Baggett]
