Hands-On Report--Trendy Shield for Video iPod
The Trendy Shield is set of clear films that are applied to the front and back of the 5G iPod with video to prevent scratches. According to TrendyGeek,
The film is 100% transparent so you can barely see it when applied. The film adheres strongly to the iPod and will not come off with regular use but is easily removed with out leaving any residue on the ipod.
Two sets of the films are included for $12.99. Express shipping was $12.
What the TrendyGeek web site promotional material does not say is that the film is applied after dipping it in water with a few drops of detergent added. This caused us some concern for water being syphoned into the internal workings of our iPod with video, particularly around the click wheel. Nevertheless, we pushed on and installed the Trendy Shield following the directions supplied by TrendyGeek.
After letting it dry for a hour as directed, the Trendy Shield was solidly affixed to our iPod with video with no discernable bubbles or other discontinuities. Our iPod still worked so our concern for water getting inside and damaging it, at least for now, remains unfounded.
How does it look? We'd say it's okay. We can tell the Trendy Shield is there but it is not particularly obtrusively noticeable to eye or hand. In a week or so we'll peel it off and report again on its adherance, appearance and if there is any residue or not. [Bill Fox]
